We have all learned to survive within our modern, well regulated society. What I propose is to give some insight into surviving at a more basic level. That is to survive in a broken and completely lawless society.
Most of us have read books and seen movies that deal with the aftermath of nuclear war or some other national calamity. In these thrillers we've seen people group together and pool their resources and manpower to fight off those who would attack them as well as to try and maintain some level of civilization. Drifting into anarchy with the resulting chaos is all too easy when sane rules become virtually unenforceable.
It would be fortunate indeed to belong to a large family of well provisioned and capable warrior/hunter/gatherers that could assure not only self protection but continuity of community. Few of us enjoy that luxury. So, to provide some insight into prolonging the lives of you and your family and me and mine, I will be writing these short primers for what I see as the modern, small, family unit. That is to say, a parent or two and several children.
First up and I think most important is the question: Why attempt to survive when so many of your family members, friends and fellow countrymen will have already died and everything you have ever known is being destroyed . The answer to that is within yourself. It may be that your religion demands that you never give up and fight through transgression to protect yourself and family and to spread the Gospel. Perhaps because in your purpose driven life you refuse to let even more terrible things happen when you might take a hand to stop them. Or maybe you will fight to survive because you are just too mean and ornery to let a bunch of foreign attackers and the resultant street crazies and would-be warlords take away all that is important in your life. Whatever your reason to survive, if it is honorable, it is good. More later.
